The girls go on the auditioning circuit

King and I and a Warner Music audition that has lots of momma's talking..

So besides having back to school we also had a couple auditions that came up.  One was an open call for King and I that the girls wanted to audition.  There was a manageable amount of people at the casting, and thankfully the girls got in with the first 10 kids called.   Talk about a short theater casting!  We were beyond happy that this was a quick one!  Although King and I is an asian casting, the children that have been cast seem to be more thai than chinese just due to the fact that the kids are suppose to be from Siam.  Of course, we figured that it never hurts to try, so we packed up and headed to the city.

It was a very quick and easy casting, one that didn’t give us much heart ache or time spent in a hot holding room, so we were way happy about this opportunity.

***********

Then this past week, we were called to a casting for a Warner Music development deal.

Apparently, there was a number of concerned parents over this casting.  One particular producer has a video production company that has put out music videos at a cost to parents.   He markets his services in order to get their children marketed to music industry labels.  Now of course, there is nothing illegal in having a company that creates these types of productions.  As a matter of fact,  he is pretty resourceful to have tapped into that market of parents willing to pay for those services.  Although I do understand how this could cause parents to question the validity of the casting.  Especially when most kids that attended go to castings where they are expecting to be hired and get paid for their talent, not the other way around.  Also with Warner Music being mentioned in the casting request, everyone assumes that this audition is specifically for Warner Music.   I have to say that all the judges were very nice, so there was nothing particularly wrong with the casting.

I do understand the parents concerns, but as this casting hasn’t mentioned a cost involved (at least not to me),  I am holding judgement on any of it. All I can say is that  Isabella had fun during the the first casting.  The second, well it was certainly different.

Isabella on the first day of casting and on the second call back.

The call back caught a lot of the kids off guard.  They were asked to prepare a song to sing.  Then when they got into the studio, they were asked to listen to a particular beat and go in and make up lyrics based on the beat given.

I think it threw off a number of kids completely, including Isabella.   It probably would have been easier had they asked her to sing the song she prepared and then go in and try the improv singing to the beat provided.  I am sure some of the older kids were good, as they may have done improvisational singing or written lyrics before, it just didn’t work for my songbird.  She felt the key wasn’t right, nor the tempo of the music.

In any event, I am sure this casting will unfold in an interesting way, and it should be interesting to see the outcome and the Warner Music Group involvement.  I will keep up on the conversation and how this whole casting unfolds.   It should be interesting!
